Travel Appy With The Kids: Four Apps To Keep Little People Busy on Holiday

Half of our office is in sunny Mexico right now, and that got us thinking – with all the traveling happening around the holidays, especially with kids in tow (how do the Jolie-Pitts do it?!) how do we keep them busy and occupied? We decided to tackle as many of those ‘what ifs’ and ‘are we there yets’ as we could with some apps that are sure to help them, and you, stay smiling these holidays!

Toca Kitchen

This is probably the one time you’ll ever let your kids play with their food! There’s a dozen characters for your kids to cook for, pots, pans, and even a fridge stocked so full even you’ll wish it wasn’t just a virtual game.

The great thing about globetrotting is that you often get to learn new languages! How about making it fun for your little guy or gal with an app that’ll have them saying ‘are we there yet’ in Spanish? We’re betting a little change in sound will be good for your ears too.

Draw and Tell

This is so much fun, we want it for ourselves! Perfect for long plane rides, this is the ultimate colouring book. You can colour, you can draw, you can add stickers to anything, this is probably the perfect companion for anyone who loves all things colourful and creative.

This app has over 9,000 tours for you and your kids to pick from. 9,000! Sorted easily by different categories every single day, there’s always going to be something on the itinerary.

Have any other favourite apps that we’re missing? Let us know!

(Leave) Home for the Holidays!

Not everyone is meeting up with their nearest and dearest over the holiday season. In fact, some take the opportunity to leave home – jetting off somewhere warm (preferably where they serve cocktails with the little umbrellas) or just doing something out of the ordinary.

Either way, we’ve compiled a nice little list of escape destinations to which you and your long distance loved ones can escape.

For couples: Dominican Republic

One of the most popular destinations, DR is a (relatively) short flight away, and a perfect place to relax on the beach, check out the swim-up bar, learn how to sail a boat and forget about all the snow that’s piling up on your driveway right … about … now.

For family fun: Orlando, Florida

Disney World, Sea World, hot air balloon rides … Orlando has something for everyone. The kids will never get bored and you’ll even find yourself getting into the Disney spirit. With smiles, delight and fireworks around every corner, you don’t stand a chance. Not to mention, after your kids meet Mickey Mouse, you’ ll certainly get the parent of the year award!

With your friends: Montreal, Quebec

Montreal is as renown for its poutine as it is for its shopping, and the great news is you and your friends don’t even have to leave the continent for a taste of Europe. With its fantastic restaurants, hip boutique hotels and the beautiful historic buildings of  old Montreal, you will never want to leave!

Grandparents getaway: Celebrity Cruises

Everywhere from Alaska to the Eastern Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises is rated the #1 cruise ship, and with good reason. With delicious food (you can’t go wrong with their 4 egg omelets) great shows and access to the best tropical ports of call, you’ll sail away this holiday season and get the best of both land and sea.

What do you think of these holiday destinations? Did we get your favourite?
